Mixing Menial and Magical: 5 Easy Steps for Aligned Workflow

You are a spiritual business owner.

You started your business because your heart was called to service others. Your mission is to heal, to create, to facilitate magic.

But you also have to balance credit, send and receive invoices, file taxes and answer emails. Among a million other things.

And those things feel a little less mystical, to say the least.

But that's not to say you can't imbue these menial tasks with the essence of the divine. And you should!

Every practice begins with “setting the stage.” In our case, making sure that our physical space is in alignment with our mission couldn’t be more important.

Imagine sitting down to meditate and playing KORN! Or placing a new crystal by your bedside without cleansing or charging it with your intention.

…you probably won’t be getting very many results.

Our energy and mindset have an effect on our everyday lives. If we are not in the right space for something, chances are it is not going to go as planned. As holistic workers, it’s just as important that our energy is in alignment when we are reconciling our business expenses as when we are performing a reading (or whatever your modality is). It is all connected. We know this.

So how do you do it? You can’t exactly answer emails and track your receipts with your eyes closed and sitting in full lotus (if you do figure that out, please let me know).

These are the five ways I weave magic into my business flow and create a work space that feels mystical. Each of these things, among others, allow me to keep my mindset and energy lined up. Each one is simple, yet effective, as all the best magic is.

Smudge your space each day

Before you sit down with your laptop, planner or checkbook, take time to light incense, sage or Palo Santo and clear away any stagnant or negative energy from the room. Let the smoke roll over your body as well, releasing any tension, stress or negative belief patterns.

This is especially true for me when I am running my budgeting for the month. I take the time to release stagnancy and limiting beliefs about money and abundance before I even look at my bank account. I make sure that no negative energy or thoughts are affecting my money flow.

Emphasis on that last point: we all have predisposed ideas about money, success, wealth, service and work. Actively releasing these preconceived ideas before you begin your workflow can have amazing effects on your ability to accept payment, try something new, be more collaborative, take a risk, or discern what is right for you.

Light candles

Blue, green and yellow candles all hold symbolic themes I associate with workflow. Blue is calm and productive, associated with the throat chakra. This would be beneficial if you are prone to overstimulation, procrastination or communication problems.

Green is fresh, new, and abundant, and always makes me feel hopeful and at peace. You might try this color candle if you are beginning a new project or considering a new move of some kind.

Yellow is associated with the solar plexus chakra which is the source of our personal power. This association is good for those who need a boost of confidence or joy, or those who are prone to self-doubt.

Of course, you might have your own ideas for color associations. Trust them! Use tools and colors that feel right to you, you don’t have to rely on others’.

Create an altar space

Dedicating an altar in your home office or even a small corner of your desk at work can help set the tone and ease the energy around you. Keep a candle, a crystal and or a small statuette of a deity to refer back to in moments of stress or disharmony.

It can be as simple or as elaborate as you’re comfortable with. Altars are dedicated places of power and items placed on them can be shifted to fit the needs of the practitioner. If you already have an altar for personal use, you can add items you associate with work or the office in order to channel the energy in that direction.

Popular items for altars are candles, herbs, statuettes, bowls and goblets (to hold moon water or offerings), and crystals. Which brings us to number four…

Add crystals

There are many types of crystals you may want to incorporate near you while you work. Personally I keep clear quartz, lepidolite and selenite nearby. Lepidolite is good for cleaning up electromagnetic pollution and selenite is great for clearing negative energy.

There are many crystals that would be beneficial for the workspace, at home or in public settings. I recommend those that clear stress and negative energy and dispel EMFs. Amethyst is great for promoting calm, and citrine is great for creativity.

You can keep them on your altar as mentioned above, or directly next to your workspace.

Mini meditations

Taking one to two minutes in between calls, emails or to-do items can promote patience, clear-headedness and productivity. Visualize stress floating away like balloons or incase yourself in calming blue light. Do you get a 15 minute break? Go pee and then search for a 7-minute meditation on YouTube. Even just a few moments of breathwork can achieve lots!

As you know, magic is everywhere...we just have to tap in.

There's no reason why your business can't be filled to the brim with the same potent energy as your practice.

Stop dreading the hard work and build an environment that feels just as magical as your shamanistic healings, your crystal shop or your Tarot readings. Doing just these small things can heighten your relationship with the material side of your business, and bring in far more joy (and money) than you can dream of.

Blessed be!
